The Foundation for the Austin Alumnae Chapter was initially established during the presidency of Soror Brenda Hanson. The first officers of the Foundation were Betty Washington, Chair and Jacqueline Pleasants, Treasurer. The Austin Delta Foundation was established to serve as the channel to purchase a Sorority House. This type of organization was necessary because the Grand Chapter does not permit local chapters to purchase property in the name of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
According to its bylaws, the purpose of the foundation is to "promote projects sponsored by the Austin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for the furtherance of educational, cultural, and economic development of the Austin community. The primary focus of such projects shall be the East Austin community." |
